Working with CoaXPress Frame Grabber and Chameleon Camera Simulator
Last Updated 3 years ago

This KB article describes the scenario of connecting one of KAYA's CoaXPress Frame Grabber and Chameleon Camera Simulator and running them with two instances of Vision Point Application or using API Example applications.

1. Install Chameleon Camera Simulator and one of KAYA's CoaXPress Frame Grabber cards into your computer.
NOTE: Both devices can also be located on different computers.

2. Open Vision Point Application and select Chameleon Simulator device or run "KY_Chameleon_Example" application and choose Chameleon Simulator CoaXPress device.

3. Configure all initial settings for Chameleon. (i.e Loading user XML file, configure parameters such as “ConnectionConfigDefault”, “AcquisitionFrameRate” etc.).

4. Open an additional instance of Vision Point Application and select CoaXPress Frame Grabber device or
run "KYFGLib_example" or "KYFGLib_Example_QueuedBuffers"application and choose your CoaXPress Frame Grabber device.

5. Perform Chameleon Camera detection by pressing the "Detect Cameras" button in Vision Point Application on Grabber side or by entering a command in API Example application ("c" - Connect to camera).

6. From this point forward, You must make acquisition start and any Chameleon's parameter change ONLY from Frame Grabber side. Use Vision Point Application -> "Camera" tab or execute relevant commands from in"KYFGLib_example" or "KYFGLib_Example_QueuedBuffers"application.
NOTE: Any change of parameters from Chameleon side must be followed by "Camera Detection" on the Grabber side.

7. Start acquisition by pressing "Start" button in Frame Grabber's Vision Point Application instance or by entering a command in "KYFGLib_example" application ("s" - Start the frame acquisition).

NOTES:

1. The "Software Grabber" device listed as one of the options in both Vision Point application and our examples is a virtual device, intended for Grabber API demonstration purposes when a customer doesn't yet have a physical Grabber device in their possession. This device fully emulates both Grabber and camera sides and never connects to any physical device. It is not a Chameleon Camera Simulator device.

2. Running an API example for acquisition mode KB can be found in the following link: https://support.kayainstruments.com/kb/faq.php?id=22

3. You can find all API application examples on your computer after application installation.
The directory path: C:\Users\Public\Documents\KAYA Instruments\Vision Point\API Samples

You can find 4. Application User Guides on your computer after application installation.
The directory path: C:\Program Files\KAYA Instruments\Vision Point\doc\

5. The naming and the sequence of the devices displayed in Vision Point Application and API Example applications depend on the devices installed in your computer.
