How to obtain a System Information file

Windows:

System Information files (NFO) contain information about the hardware and software environment of your computer. Support professionals often request this file as a way to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with a software application.

To obtain a System Information file (NFO):
  1. Press Win+R on your keyboard
  2. Type MSINFO32 in the opened window and click "OK"
  3. Click the "File" menu in the System Information window, and then "Save"
  4. Set the desired folder destination and a file name, then click "Save"
  5. Send the obtained NFO file to the support team

An alternate method to using the WINDOWS-R key and Run window is to type MSINFO32 in the search field in the Start menu (Windows 7 users), at the Start screen (Windows 8 users), or in the search box on the taskbar (Windows 10 users).


Linux:

To obtain system information file:
1. Install hardinfo utility. For Ubuntu: "sudo apt-get install hardinfo"
2. Open hardinfo application (by calling the "hardinfo" command from the terminal)
3. Click on the "Generate Report" button.

4. In the "Generate Report" window check that "Computer", "Devices" and "Network" are selected and click on the "Generate" button. Please note that benchmarks are optional and can be disabled

5. Set the desired folder destination and a file name, choose HTML format and click "Save".

6. Send the obtained file to the support team.
